Representation
A statement. Statements made before another party enters into a contract (or as part of the contract as a condition to its effectiveness) may be "mere representations" or they may be "warranties".
Warranties go to the root of the contract and amount to promises that the statement is true, such that, if it is not, the other party is entitled to the contractual measure of damages.
Representations do not go to the root of the contract.
