Federal National Mortgage Association (FNMA)

Federal National Mortgage Association (FNMA or Fannie Mae)
A corporation originally established in 1938 by the U.S. government to buy FHA mortgages and provide liquidity in the mortgage marketplace. Its function is similar to that of Freddie Mac. In 1968 its charter was changed, and now it purchases conventional mortgages as well as government ones.
