Fannie Mae
Federal National Mortgage Association (FNMA).
Originally established in 1938 by the United States government to buy Federal Housing Administration (FHA) mortgages and provide liquidity in the mortgage marketplace.
In 1968, Fannie Mae's charter was changed and it now purchases conventional mortgages as well as government-insured ones.
