Estoppel
An English law principle that, in certain circumstances, it would unfair to allow a person to do something (such as enforcing their legal rights) and that he will therefore be 'estopped' from doing it.
In the classic case8 a landlord, having promised not to charge the full rent he was entitled to, was subsequently estopped from suing for the full rent.
